Thanks to WetDec's comment, I just caught the "floating floor" thing....what is the product or method that is available in the UK for a floating floor of tile? Just curious, don't mean to get 😱fftopic:.

Also, here in the US there is a lot of controversy in the tile industry about what exactly is the definition of a decoupling membrane vs a crack isolation membrane. They end up getting used interchangeably, and some in the industry even challenge whether Ditra actually qualifies for a "decoupling membrane" , whatever it might actually mean.

Pete....... Carpet.... Minimal floor prep needed...LOL! 😀 The carpet installers are doing a good job if they sweep the largest pieces of trash off of the floor first.

Decoupling means decoupling / uncoupling it is a seperation layer allowing 2 planes to become seperated in this case under stress.

Dura-ci & ditra are true uncoupling membranes as they have a lower shear strength lower surface and can be used on green screeds.

Pecilastic & dura-wp shouldn't be used on green screeds as they do not allow the escape of moisture required for total drying in the same way CI and dtra. Peci and WP also have a lower movement capacity.

While both can be considered for uncoupling, wet heated new screeds, suspect or large floors suceptible to lateral movement should imo use a true uncoupling membrane..................

Hope this helps a little................
