Hi all

Im curently constructing a new patio at home using porcelain tlies , the tiles are 1000x500 with 5mm joints , they’re a white / very light grey colour .

I’m toying with the idea of using Silicon in all the joints as apposed to grout , I’m a dab hand with a mastic gun & could get a very neat finishing using it instead of grout .

Has anyone used this method , I’m just thinking grout might be messy and will stain / mark my tiles ?

What's the actual reason for wanting to do this, your concerned you can't get a good finish with grout ?

The best thing is to grout with epoxy grout, i woudnt Silicon the joints it won't look right in my opinion.

Yes a bit concerned about getting a good finish on the grout and also worried about the grout marking the tiles as they have a slightly textured finish to them , guess I just have to put a small amount of grout in & clean it off as I go then .

Patio with 5mm Silicon joints... As above, it'll look "different", cost far more than grout and not be very durable IMHO.

The grout is there for a reason!
It’s a compressible water resistant cement that will allow some movement with temperature change whilst still providing support to the the tile edge.
