hey guys is it ok to tile onto plasterboard in a bathroom. or does it have to be skimmed.

If so do you have to prime plasterboard prior to tiling. also is it special adhesive for plasterboard. Ceramic tiles!

thanks

tiling onto plasterboard can carry more weight than tiling onto plaster skim
plasterboard-32kg per m2 inluding grout and adhesive
plaster skim-25 kg per m2

if you are using most tubbed adhesive then there is no need to prime as most have it in it,however if the tiles are larger than 300m X 300mm then you will have to use cement based adhesive(bagged)

lovely

now you mention it they may well be bigger than 300mm. so do you have to use primer on boards with bagged cementious adhesive.??

Is it ok to tile onto a painted skim surface. ??

Use primer with cement addys, Check the paint, you could wet and try to scrape off but leave the water soaking for a bit

Steam wallpaper Stripper - leave on for 5-10 secs - give a scrape with a wide sharp scraper - then back on again with the steam for another few seconds. Get the knack right and you will fly through it (ie after the first bout of steam while scraping have the steam head on the next bit of paint you will be doing).

WARNING - Don't leave the steam on too long or you will do the skim - with having to cut back and re-skim

Cheers

You don't normally have to if its a clean board but check with the adhesive manufacturer if you have it it doesn't hurt but i wouldn't buy any if you are not going to use it again 😛ete

just a thought, could the painted wall not be scored all over instead of being removed - then primed?
