Plaster damp and damaged behind tiles in shower - Tile Advice

I had a few loose tiles in the shower so decided to remove them, I’ve now taken quite a lot off and all the plaster is damp and soggy.

I was planning to rip it out and start again, just not sure if to plasterboard and tank or use a waterproof board like Kerdi board / Wedi board, as this says it doesn’t need tanking and can be tiled straight onto?

Not sure what’s best practice, or if there the same then what’s going to be easier?

If you have the option to fully rip out and start again , then I would ... you can use waterproof/resistant boards or plasterboard dot and dabbed and then tanked.

Thanks, I was hoping to rip it out up to just below the shower, all the way round. Then replace them bits with waterproof board. It’s about the best of a bad job I can manage.

Is waterproof board better than plasterboard and tanking? Is one preferred over the other?

Waterproof boards will need mechanical fixing if onto a solid wall and plasterboard can be applied with plasterboard adhesive and no fixings, then tanked with a paste kit. Easier and cheaper option.

Cheers, so normal plasterboard tanked will be good enough? Dot and dab plasterboard up to where it meets the good plaster, tank new and old, then tile?
