Cheers Doug, I'm glad I'm not the only one interested in the heavens. Mrs Phil just said, " so there are other whack jobs, its not just you" I love astronomy. Vast place the Universe. 1st time I have seen Mars live

Look at the full moon, on the left of it you will see an orangy glowing dot - that's Mars... about the distance of your fist away from the moon if you stretch out your arm in that direction, just don't let anyone see you... :lol:

looks like a star to me with a bit of red on it

bit crap really i always think i could get in to this looking at the stars melarkly then i go out get cold and a stiff neck

It depends on the atmospheric conditions I think, Mars twinkled at me two earlier in the evening, but I woke up at 4:30am , thinking it was 7am it was so light, with the moonlight right into the window, reflected of the fresh thick snow, absolutely beautiful, and it was so clear, Mars just 'shone' no twinkle, quite reddy/orangey indeed... very nice.. and then I went back to bed :lol:
