I was in HomeBase yesterday with the Mrs and as I am always working, I scouted the prices on tiles etc  While I was checking prices, I took a walk down the adhesive isle! No wonder so many people buy ready made crap!! There was boat loads of ready made grout, floor tile adhesive, grout and addy mix! Then I got to the powdered, well, I passed a bag or two I think LMFAO. I couldn't believe it! I really understand why sooooooo many customers buy it as they push it so hard it is unreal!

Also, I noticed they sell 6ft trims instead of 8ft. Is this common?? They were the crappest trims I had ever seen and they cost a fortune!!!

Your right about the trims, they fit in the car better than the 8 ft ones.

Yes I agree about the tubbed gear, must be a good profit margin

Homebase must pluck their prices from the sky.

Some downright amusing prices I seen one day having a browse:

Mangers sponge - 99p
Same sponge beside it, in Homebase packaging - £1.50
1.5m white pvc 6mm trim - £5.99
Unknown brand SPF - £26.99

dont even know what adhesive they sell or grouts as i have never used homebase as b and q is nearer. They would sell a lot more if the staff had product training and were interested in selling those products..imo.

Is that why they sell 6ft ones? I know it is funny when a customer says "the metal trim is £1 cheaper in (Insert Shed here)". That's because it's 2ft shorter

It was Evo-Stik!

Homebase in Sandbach.

nearly £6 for a tube of Silicon
£5 for a 2 mtr 30x30 mm length of timber
£4.90 for a bag of screw covers

RRRIIIPPP OOOOOFFFFFF!!!!!!

:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

no one who had any idea would use homebase to buy any materials they only survive because their are quite a few who haven't any idea lol imo

tile trim...nothing to do with fitting in the car.
they sell it at 6ft lengths because the most common size window is 4ft square. So If you had 8ft lengths that would mean 2 lengths.....so by selling it at 6ft you have to buy 4 lengths unless you want to join it.
How do i know ??? Homelux was started by a local company and i used to know someone who worked there....this was years ago and somethings never change.

Sneaky b@stards

Oh the people who created the 1st Homelux trims were clever. On trims there are holes along the back edge to allow the adhesive to grab the trim arent there...well the 1st trims had square holes and the plastic that was pushed out was sold as spacers/pegs. No waste and no need to remelt the plastic down again.

Only reason I used them was because there are no other suppliers in Sandbach and I did not fancy a 10 mile round trip to my supplier.

The only thing Homebase was good for was my artificial Christmas tree. 6 foot tall, as wide as old Father Christmas himself, £80 all the way up to the day before Christmas Eve. Hubby and I went in late on Christmas Eve, got the tree and decoration all for £28 :hurray: thems were the days of being hard up

no point me going to Homebase anymore anyway, as there's a Focus right across the road from where I live!

Homebase were the only people to sell copper tube in 2 mtr lengths (instead of 3) at one time!

I think the reason they sell so much tubbed gear is supply on demand. Homebase is a D.I.Y supplier and most d.i.y enthusiasts want the easy route. I imagine they dont sell much powdered addie so why pack the shelves with it?
