A water-resistant, frost-resistant cement-based powder grout designed for grouting ceramic floor tiles, mosaics, quarries etc. Also suitable for use on walls. Not recommended for soft glazed wall tiles, or tiles with metal decor or lustre. Suitable for use in interior and exterior locations in both wet and dry conditions. Suitable for swimming pools. • Increased mechanical strength.
• Increased flexural strength and flexibility.

It is very sticky gear ......... keep it clean as you work...A bucket of nice hottish water helps the clean up...of tools......

Easy to use just pour liquid and add powder and mix til it's nice and creamy. The only drawback is if the floor is only 6m2 you might not use all of the 2 part kit so you might end up with either leftover liquid or powder, But still very good gear and fast drying too

Hi
Just had a look at the price............ £50........... is there anything a bit cheaper :joker:

You'll always pay a premium for the convenience of laying and grouting all in the one day. Well worth the coin IMHO.

Most companies produce a flex rapid set that should set within 3 hours, I know weber does as I use it all the time and loads cheaper than BAL. Maybe 'no more ply' would be better than your 9mm ply as it's more rigid and only 6mm thick.

Cheers,

Dave

Standard single part or rapid flexi will offer no manufacturers guarantee onto 6mm cement based boards on timber. Two part is the recommended unless your boards are a minimum of 10mm thick......Gaz

Never knew that Gaz, but I wouldn't know to be honest; I've never had a job fail 🙂 not even looked into a guarantee for adhesive. Surely if there was a problem then it would be more likely the tiler at fault than the adhesive.
Cheers,
Dave

I've used 6mm hardie backer and had no problem's, I'ts all down to the correct preparations

Biscem do a similar product to Bal fast Flex called (funnily enough) Biscem Flex. I use it a lot as my local dealer stocks it.
Wear gloves though cos its a bugger to get off your hands.

oh and i pay around £30 for powder and liquid.

It may well be, but if you ever do have a problem, you are on your own.....Gaz

In most cases Gaz you are on your own, The customer will blame you because of the problem, I'm just following Hardie's rocommendation's for the 6mm perhaps they should be informed of the 10mm rule from adhesive company's. I have never heard from any tiler who has had problems with materials that the company has ever made a visit to the site (commercial or domestic), The shop of purchace avoids the subject like the plague, And before you say find a decent supplier believe me there thin on the ground here even running out of supplies.

PS I did notice the BAL sticker

In my previous job as a retailer selling hardiebacker, I asked the question regarding 6mm onto T&G flooring as a structural board. BAL stated that 10mm minimum cement based boards were structural and therefore single or rapid flexi was ok. These findings influenced my selling tecniques, in accordance to manufacturers specification, and James Hardie UK were informed of the results. If ever in doubt regarding BAL technical matters please contact this number, we will be happy to answer the question for you...Gaz
