hi.i plan on tiling my kitchen floor 2 save a bit of cash.the room is empty what would be the best way 2 get a straight line 2 start laying the tiles.any info would be a great help
first of all find the centre of the room in both directions and make mark on the floor from that mark measure across with your tiles and see wot size cut you get at the edge of room if this results in small piece then find centre of tile and put this on the centre mark on floor and repeat again when satisfied with the size of cuts around the edges you can then transfer them measurments onto floor using a strait edge stick to this centre line as you tile and it will ok

oh and by the way nicky welcome to forums ..
I agree in a fashion. The setting out of a floor would include soooo many things but the aim is to have nice easy cuts around your edge and any obstacles.
Try to find the most square corner and act as if you were trying to get your grout joints parallel to those 2 square walls then adjust accordingly to make the cuts on the other two walls look as big as they can.
I find the middle of the room and mark so you have right angled cross then i find the middle of the door opening and draw a line to the opposite wall meeting the other line at right angles . lay your tiles out and find whats going to give you least or best cuts . i try to have a grout line in the middle of the door or a half tile . so that each side of the door opaening ars the same .
