Fitting a glass panel using a u channel

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Are there any negatives to fitting a stainless steel u channel on top of a shower tray to support a glass panel? It will not be a wet room.

Thanks, Plan Tec Tiling. It will be braced to the wall and a good quality clear Silicon will be used.

Waluigi, because the glass panel comes with a clear plastic channel that I thought might get mucky.

I fit wet room panels to trays all the time. Never have I done anything other than rest the glass on the tray and clear Silicon. A channel is another thing to get dirty IMO

Not to hijack the thread but in the opinion of you guys who install full bathrooms what silicones are the best out there for sticking, sealing anti mould etc?

Bal Micromax or Dow Corning.

Mould has more to do with ventilation in my experience. Also mould often occurs where people Grout expansion joints and Silicon over them.

Can’t really go wrong with a good quality Clear like Dow for sticking. Clear sealant sticks better than white or coloured. Ever Build forever clear and forever white is decent. Be careful with some of the colour matching sealants, a lot are nuetral curing and I find don’t stick as well.

neutral cure is a must on stone, I've seen some right messes on grey limestone with clear silicon which contains acid.

Absolutely. I would only use neutral cure on stone. Both natural and man made.

I also use neutral on wastes.

Oh yeah, the likes of Screwfix now sell neutral cure Dow 785.
