My bathroom walls are currently tiled halfway and then plastered up to the ceiling, they will be tiled floor to ceiling with 600x300x8mm ceramic tiles.

The general consensus is that when the tiles are removed the bricks will be exposed. The first tiler advised the bricks will need to be skimmed and the second advised skimming is not enough and the walls will need to be plastered. Is one option preferred to the other or is it personal preference?

As an alternative could the lower half of the walls be boarded or should all plaster be removed and all of the walls boarded?

Fastest and easiest is to get back to brick then dot and dab plasterboard. That way you can get a perfectly flat and plumb surface for tiling. Just tank the wet areas.

Thanks, pdc. Both tilers advised once the tiles have been removed, I need to sort out the walls so they are flat enough for them to come in and tile. Would a plasterer be willing to board the walls or do I need a builder?

Decent tiler would prefer to board the walls themselves, either Ditra for wet areas and plasterboard for other walls to be plastered.

Do not under any circumstances get a builder , jack of all trades and all that , last heard saying "tiler will get over that "
