Hi guys and girls,

I've been tiling for 12 years now, but i have never achieved or even thought about NVQ, CSCS or even site work. All of which i do are residential jobs.

I have been given the option of a small grant to achieve my first NVQ and obtain a CSCS card. I wasn't really that fussed about doing any of it but it will open up a few avenues in the future hopefully. More so hopefully that i can jump on site anytime my own business is a bit quiet.

I read up a little bit about what's available and with my experience and background would point me in the direction of doing EWPA. I've checked out ableskills website, but can anyone from around my way (or even further afield) recommend a good training "school" to enquire at.

If you do this via OSAT, the assessor will come to you mate whilst you work your regular job. Means you dont have to travel, take time off work etc.

I looked at this a few years ago for plastering. I was told that after I filled in large amounts of paperwork and completed the Health and Safety exam an assessor would come out to a job and watch me dot and dab a board and then skim it. I would then receive NVQ2. I didn't bother in the end because it seemed like a load of hassle for nothing. Also, I've never fancied site work anyway.

I've always done residential work and generally complete bathroom and kitchen installs. Current climate though i'm finding a few breaks in work occassionally. Although time off every now and again is a bonus it would be good to have the option of jumping on the tools on site if times get hard you know.
