Hi guys,

Can I have some advise on a drill bit to get through slate and any recommeded methods?

I haven't had to drill through slate before and I'm not after a drill bit that will go on and on as I'm only after doing a couple of holes.

Cheers in advance guys.

Dean.

what size hole mate?

if it's just for fixings then a normal masonry will do just fine

I'm making a water feature using large lumps/slabs of slate. holes will need to be .5 inch to fit hose in.

when you say large lumps do you mean width wise or thickness?

either way I suppose I would go for a decent masonry bit, sds in a good drill with the hammer action off, cool the bit with water too if it's thick

as colour has sid a masonary bit will be fine. you could use a small bit if you havent got one big enough and drill a series of holes and then punch it out with a hammer and punch.

yep, no need for expensive bits mate, slate is quite soft so a masonry bit will be fine:thumbsup:
