hi all. Just looked at a Floor job today. The Lady needs tiles laying. problem is the carpet needs to come up and underneath that is asbestos tiles .She knew this because another tiler came previously and checked it out and refused the job. the asbestos tiles are solid to the concrete floor. my thoughts are : prime the asbestos tiles and slc ontop, or stick hardiebacker board straight ontop of the asbestos tiles. Any good advice there forumers.

I would think gutjahr flexbone 2e matting is the way forward as its a floating matting that doesnt require fixing to a substrate . This is available from trimline and also topps tiles as bal flexbone 2e . I expect ctd sell it also.

You may want to encapsulate the tiles in levelling compound first , for this I would use ardex arditex na or ultra level it 2

I wouldn’t want to screw into the asbestos tiles for hardie backer boards as that is how the fibres are released into the air.
Prime plus grip and slc over the top to encapsulate them.

Where I live it is no longer allowed to encapsulate asbestos tiles. Best bet would be the floating membrane, then no worries with any waxes or other contaminants that might need to be removed before priming.
