I used it years ago with Ardex x7. But they are coming out with so many new adhesives & grout that have flexi etc added in now, there is little point in it.

There is always a need for adhesive additives fred...they make a more flexi mix than standard hydrated ones...

Plus if using BAL standard/rapid adhesives onto concrete and not there flexible adhesives they say you have to use an additive now to comply with there 25 yr guarantee....work that one out..:huh2:

looks like Mapei then eh?..

Purely from a technical perspective, BAL CTF3, can, of course be used for the fixing of ceramic tiles to an existing mature, sound and clean concrete floor without the need for an Admix i.e. BAL Admix AD1, when fixing vitrified ceramic floor tiles.

However, there are 3 distinct senario's where the use of BAL Admix AD1 with BAL CTF3 would be beneficial or would be required. These are:

1. When fixing porcelain (fully vitrified) tiles, because BAL CTF3 does not contain Porcelbond.
2. For the fixing of tiles to a suspended concrete floor, where some limited moveemnt or vibration (dependant also on service conditions) may be expected.
3. Where the concrete is very dense i.e. power floated concrete.

Of course, there would be other, more suitable choices to use with any or a combination of the 3 senario's highlighted above.

However, BAL CTF3 is still suitable for a variety of wall tiles and vitrified floor tiles onto the backgrounds highlighted in the product selector.

As you and I well know Dave, the selection of BAL CTF3 with BAL Admix AD1 has nothing to do with the BAL 25 year product guarantee whatsoever. The nature of these types of product selected is that they are designed to be a quick guide for the end user. However they cannot cover every senario i.e. type type of concrete, location i.e. ground floor? nor tile type, so you would have to say that inevitably the advice given on them has to cover the majority of situations/senarios which relate to that particular adhesive and background selection.

ardion 90 is still much better spec than the spf adhesives 😛ete
ps try getting off your hands lol

So why has this addition of AD1 in the new fixer book been added when it was not on the old one..?...i.e before BAL brought out the 25 yr guarantee....

And also it is not just CTF3 that i am refering to gaz..it is all none flexi cement adhesives and this issue was brought up by CTD who has used BAL for many yrs and want to know why the sudden change..?...

If you are saying that BAL spec hasn't changed then why has the literature in the handbook..?..

That is all that CTD would like to know..

I'm an ad90 and s16 man myself tried and tested over 20 odd years and never let me down
if its snot broke why fix it
