Hello everyone I am just asking what you think,I am a plumber and gas man,but i have been offered a lot of regular work fitting bathrooms, I have done this for a while and can tile to an ok standard of tiling but not perfection,i only do basic tiling ,and i want to learn diamond patterns, brick bond etc(fancy stuff lol) i am not in a position to train as an apprentice and go that route, what would you recommend as i dont want to turn the work down but also dont want to be asked to do something i havent done and mess it up ,any good training centers or otherways to learn
cheers in advance

If you've already got the basics ricky, how about offering a local tiler a few days as a free labourer when he's doing these patterns?

I could do,do you think it would be worth doing a weekend course on stone floor and patterns etc

As Doug says, you need to learn from a time served tiler if you can. These areas are covered in short courses but not in depth so you probably wouldn't be any better off. Welcome along to the forum.

thanks for your repleys i will have to have a word with a local tiler and see if we can work anything out, when pricing do you all charge more for stone floors compared to ceramic or do you just have a basic day rate and allow for the extra time,as i used to work with a guy on site and he was charging crazy money for the stone floors

hi ricky,if you have a basic grasp on tiling already as you say then a course on stone or whatever you want o learn would imo benefit you in the right trainibng centre of course

where are you based, maybe if you contacted a few and discussed what you wanted to learn they could do a tailor made course for you...just a thought

all the best

I am based in croydon I have a training course around the corner, the building training centre, supose to be good my dad done electrics there and mate done plumbing ,dont no anyone who has done the tiling though,i will give them a bell, how are you all finding work at the moment by the way?

Stone is always more expensive to fix Ricky, due to wet cutting, sealing etc. more time consuming than ceramics.
