    Hardie hydro

Almost 43 lbs per board? And what products do they suggest for waterproofing the seams and screw penetrations? No thanks.

Build shower pan over old wall tile?

How are you going to waterproof the pan? I don't see any way of doing it without removing the first row, and if the workmanship was that bad, all the other rows as well.

Does white tile adhesive have relatively weak bonding strength?

Not sure what adhesive you are using, but most here have a TDS that states bond strength, sheer strength and all other performance properties. I have never noticed there to be a difference due to color.

    When Do You Uncouple?

At the end of the day, I am charging the same price for cement board or membrane. It is cheap insurance in my mind since wood moves and tile moves at different rates. Also you guys have courses and trainings for tiling, many guys here don't and there are a lot of failures because of improper...

    When Do You Uncouple?

Here where I live everything is wood subfloor, so most everything gets a membrane. If a floor needs added strength we do that with plywood then a membrane. Ditra or any other product is nice because it is lightweight so easier on the body to install. Are membranes overkill in most cases, sure...

    When Do You Uncouple?

Wood subfloor or lots of windows. Almost all my floors are over wood, so basically every job I do. Things move at different rates and it seems like cheap insurance. An added benifit is most membranes are lighter and easier to work with than hardi.

    Electric Under Tile Heating

No worries Gary. I think my comment came across wrong. I think if doing a heated floor, using the cheapest product is gonna end poorly. Finding the best deal on the best product is a different story, and that is probably what you meant, and I misunderstood. I was honestly lost on UFH as an...

    Electric Under Tile Heating

Well where I am (insert smily) we have a lot of options on how we do heating systems. We have wire that gets covered with a leveling cement, we have wires attached to mats that get covered with thinset, we have wires that are imbeded in mats, we have mats that you put wires in... I am at a loss...

    Trowel And Error

Nice to see this as a "stickie". To answer your question, you will not pull up a tile without breaking it when fixed with this method. To remove a tile you need to slide it out of the thinset not pull it out. So if you set it in front of you on the floor, you need to pull it back towards you...

Movies And Cinema Thread - Favourite Films And What's On?

FFS.....I am about 15 minutes into this video called Everly....do not waste your time, I am as lost as the lady of the house picking a grout color.

    Favourite Washboy?

I use mine on both floors and larger walls, is a bit of a trick to getting most the water, but once you get the feel for it it becomes easier. Plus your hands stay dry.

    Unfilled Travertine?

Never had an issue with the thinset coming through, but I guess a very bad stone could be open enough for that to happen. I would use white as said earlier, and if you have a grout color already chosen, You could color your thinset in case you are a little sloppy on clean up and if it comes...

    Unfilled Travertine?

If the client purchased it that way, why would you fill it? Most folks just let the grout stay in the voids.

    Trowel And Error

I also did a thin panel porcelain training this year. They were very sure to stress making all trowel ridges go the same way for air to escape. I saw the other thread about thinsets like the mapei s2 and others for large tile. There are things worth talking about when it comes to what adhesive...

Is It Too Much To Ask!?

The best thing about this forum is just learning your day to day work..if a client gave me a meal or a drink, I have no doubt it would be deducted from my price...and cost more than the best food or drink in town.
