Advice needed self levelling please :)

See post #19 on this thread! And there's more to it than that, but I don't want to be hit with a paddle of retribution (reference to the fosters lager ad...lol) http://www.tilersforums.com/43-tiling-forum/74498-what-have-you-been-up-lately-2.html

Advice needed self levelling please :)

No worries, I'm getting out of tiling so just want to pass on what I have learnt! Also, don't forget to prime the floor. Not only does it help bond to the sub-floor, but it stops moisture from being sucked out of the SLC allowing extra setting time for it to find it's own level!

Advice needed self levelling please :)

I have found the levelling compounds that go upto 50mm do not run as well as the SLC that can be poured upto 30mm (my guess would be the manufacturers do not pulverise the ingredients into finer particles. So bigger particles do not run as well as the smaller ones). I use Mapei Reno screed...

    Travertine tiled bathroom photos

True, the extra weight increases resistance in the wires which can cause it to overheat/burnout in the affected area. I would have swapped it for 2m kit, and fixed the toilet properly.

What have you been up to lately in and out of work?

Well Guys, I've quit the tiling game now, and I just started a new job on Monday. Finished my last tiling job a couple of weeks back (30m2 60x30 bowed B&Q porcelain laid brickbond...yuk!). The customer was happy and asked me back to do the downstairs loo once it's ready. So I'll fit that in on a...

    An embarrassing moment

You can always stop off on the way to work at a McDonalds. Just go in and look at the menu like your gonna order something, and avoid eye contact with the staff. Divert to the toilet instead of the counter, and after you wash your hands, run out and don't order anything. Known as a McTurd with...

    self employment.....

I used to do payroll (producing payslips/calculating tax/NIC's). Fresh out of school I was a trainee accountant for 3 yrs. When it came to doing it myself, I had no idea where to start either. You can also go to HMRC for advice to get you started, but seriously get an accountant. Ps. I much...

Is it official ?? Is the recession over ?

Same here, things definately picked up for me too. Needed to after a few quiet weeks. Been working till half 9 all week running 2 jobs, then a 3rd started today running over the weekend. I'll finish 1 job tomorrow, the current one Monday, then back to the big job Tuesday. Also, a victorian...

    Knee pads

Another redback fanboy here!! The rubber inserts are very durable, and comfortable. Being a bit heavy, they can cause symptoms of builders crack, so wear a belt to. I do like to take mine out once in a while, just to have a break from them flapping about.

    Tiling onto MDF

Hahaha!! This subject grabbed my attention, as I have a cloakroom shower to do. Noticed the windowsill was made of MDF, and there is also no ventilation. No doubt the windowsill will be gloss painted, so I guess it is sealed in someway. But if any moisture where to get in the MDF wouldn't it...

Starting a new job on monday ! How is work going for you ?

I will probably start my own thread on this, but won't have time till weekend. Off to bed now, need that beauty sleep!

Starting a new job on monday ! How is work going for you ?

Well, were would I begin? Let down by my labourer, existing floor tiles decoupled, work couldn't go ahead as planned, existing tiles had to be removed, and now cleaned. Old screed cracked, needs anti-fracture or decoupling membrane, going to take manufacturer advice on that tomorrow. Customer...

    Ratedpeople.com

I have for the last 3 yrs. The price of the more expensive leads have jumped in the time that I have been a member. That increase in cost, I think they (RP) justify because they have increased their advertising and the number of leads for tradesmen to potentially follow. Haven't changed my...

    Bought from trade-tiler today !

Thanks again to Dave for the latest order. Got a free bag of skittles too! Tasted the rainbow...lol Can't wait to try my new KD washboy. Finally retired the Rubi one I bought in haste :hurray: Might keep it in use - just for carrying my other grouting equipment. Also got a 115mm ProGres...

    mini montolit

I find if the kind of tile your using gets marked by the mini monty, then a piece of white electric tape over the breaker helps to prevent marks. Once you have a roll of tape, it's cheap to replace to!!

Slc Method, My Way - How To Use Self Levelling Compound Properly

Tried this method for the first time on my latest job and I like it. Managed to pickup some mosaics to make my dots, and set them using my laser level, and made runners with my level. Definately got better at it, the more I did. Put my level across it today and laughed when I saw the whole 2m...

    Reclaimed Victorian floor tiles

Cheers Simon, sorry I didn't notice your response for last 6 days!! These are fire surround tiles, but I guess you would know if you have anything that size. I may re-approach the customer to see if still interested and get some pics.
