Started new business but attracted no customers

Social media is a great way of showcasing your work: get yourself a Facebook page, take tons of pics and post like crazy. Get family, friends, anyone to like your page and ask customers to do the same, it's amazing how word gets round if you're any good and you can prove it with photos. Good luck.

    Bal ivory wall grout

Mapei has always given me better results than Bal. Contact Mapei and tell them of any past issues, I'm sure they'll appreciate any feedback and be more than happy to give advice.

Advice needed on job finished today please

I'd tell him nicely but firmly that the workmanship is too poor to leave the way it is, that you want it redone properly and that the tiles need to be taken off immediately before the adhesive fully sets and possibly damages the substrate. If he refuses then get those tiles off: you have...

Advice needed - poor tiling job, dot and dab not to BS5385

Never mind British Standards, that's a poor job and he should be ashamed! Perhaps you should show him our comments, although from his attitude and behaviour I'm not sure you'll achieve a resolution no matter what you do.

    Internal corner trim or Silicon?

Hi Alex: much easier to Silicon than to do a three way trim, if you make a mistake it will be glaringly obvious. Try a good silicon such as Mapei, they have a great range of shades to help you colour match and blend in with your tiles.

    Advice Needed on cutting finish

Is this the same person? It looks like someone with no tiling knowledge has gone in and made it worse, appalling! Grouting could not possibly hide all those errors Mucker, stop him now.

    Advice Needed on cutting finish

It's like he couldn't be bothered to finish the job properly, it makes me cringe when the trim isn't mitred. Like you say Paul C., a bit of extra attention to the tile edges (or just cutting them properly in the first place) would have made a huge difference to the finished result.

    Concrete panels on bathroom walls?

Call me old fashioned but seems like a lot of faff for something you can't even use in a high water zone, you could have tiled it by now ;)

To Tile or not to Tile... (myself)

Hi Josh and welcome. I wouldn't waste money on a grout protector with a dark coloured grout: only bother if you use a pale colour to prevent it getting discoloured. Good luck with your setting out and marking and remember to take your time, keep checking your measurements and don't forget to...

How to finish the edge of split faced tiles.

I've set this type of tile a few times and brushed satin beats everything else for me, gives it a clean edge but not as bright as chrome. Nice job though MalcyB, sockets look good too.

Hello i just out of hospital now faced with this, I am sorry but advice needed on this work.

It's appalling. And saying the floor isn't level is no excuse for tiles sticking up like that, so if they try that tack don't accept it.

    Returning to forum after accident.

That's awful Graham3: as everyone else has said try and take your recovery one day at a time till you're properly fit enough and I really hope you get well soon.

Bad Tiling where do I stand?

Hi Charlotte, this guy has treated you very badly and I'd advise you to jettison him and his rotten attitude and find someone else. When I was single and bought my first little house I had the runaround from several 'tradesmen' and it was so frustrating that I enrolled on a bricklaying course...

BCT Ceramic Wall Tiles in Shower Cracking After 12 Weeks

I have to say that if the GC was experienced he wouldn't touch BCT tiles with a bargepole, I haven't had any truck with them since my rookie days. There would be movement if he hasn't taped the joints, but that much cracking in such a small amount of time points more to tiles unfit for use than...

Floor Tiling advice and are additives necessary?

Hi Granty. It's not so much that floors are harder to deal with than walls, more that each has its own techniques and problems to take into consideration. Type of substrate, levelling and prepping, correct adhesive etc are very different when tiling a floor, which is why we're advising you to...

Help, I think my tiler is doing a bad job. What should I do?

Words fail me (clean ones anyway)

Help, I think my tiler is doing a bad job. What should I do?

Shoddy and possibly unsafe if he isn't using the right adhesive. Personally I'd take the hit and get someone else in, if you're not happy now you won't feel any better when he's done and it will cost even more to rectify.

Unhappy with finish of beveled metro tiles and tile trim around window - are we being unreasonable?

Or hired a professional for the entire tiling job, obviously a money saving backfire...
