    Levellig with Jakoboard

You could try dabbing the boards on with adhesive then next day screwing into the timber behind to give it a strong fixing. Where it exceeds 15mm best to double board it in areas. Make sure you’ve got a good spirit level and read the wall first then use that to level the boards up. It’s a bit...

    Pro tiler - tendon injury?

I remember having bad tennis elbow when I started out and was doing site work. That was all tub adhesive. Since most tiles are over 30cm these days I only use bag adhesive and I’d forgotten all about that pain until I read your thread. I think you should change and give yourself a chance to...

    Newbie after advice

Hi Darren, get yourself on LinkedIn and Instagram and find companies and people in your area that look good to you. Even if you offered up your services free for a very short time to get a foot in the door and get a free education. If you were in the midlands i’d snap your hand off. There’s tons...

    Soft Grout

I had a similar problem with micro an years ago and had the BAL rep out. He said the grout was under hydrated and I’d not used the exact right amount of water. Also said you need to mix it wet and let it sit so the polymers can dissolve then remix it. Obviously my fault then, no surprise there...

Looking to set up as a sole trader tiler

Get an accountant who is prepared to give you advice and who has other customers in the construction industry. Get CIS registered (Construction Industry Scheme) as a subcontractor. Maybe start the process of attaining a CSCS card so you can enter building sites. Get Public Liability insurance...

    Best floor and UFH

Hi, 15-18mm should be enough even if you use Dural or Ditra matting and a 10mm porcelain tile. These types of matting are definitely better than the 1mm stuff but 36m isn't big and many of us tilers will have done heaps of floors that size without matting. Matting will give you piece of mind...

    Running the business

I started using Xero when we set up our new company 2 years ago. We have an accountant and a bookkeeper also. I decided to learn Xero to give me a better understanding of how our accounts work and be in a stronger position if our numbers grow. After going VAT registered it was even more...

Acceptable option for cutting tiles around bathroom pipes/taps

If a hole can be cut and then the tile fitted over the pipe then that is always a must. Sometimes something is fitted and can't be removed so u cuts or splitting a tile is the only option. Using a quality blade to reduce chipping is important and a good colour match grout to make it invisible...

Tiling Rates Per Square Meter - How much does tiling cost?

I often point out to people that whatever the day rate is I will only likely get around 60-70% in my pocket. After basic costs like tax, fuel, van, accountancy costs, xero subscription, liability insurance and several other costs it takes the wow factor away from that so called decent day rate...

Electric UFH and Quartz Tiles Advise needed

Hi, I'm told it's all about the resin content in the quartz that makes it unsuitable for UFH. Apparently there is different grades but is it really worth the risk. My business colleague has it and I love to point out the lippage on his floor as we are both tilers. He's adamant it wasn't like...

How to install a shelf in a shower niche?

Wow, that explains the grey hair that's starting to show. This place started off as my only source of knowledge from experienced tilers. Now I am one I guess. Cheers

How to install a shelf in a shower niche?

I would imagine Silicon would hold them in. Create a stand to sit the shelf at the right height then Silicon in clear colour around edges top and under side. Place another stand on top of that shelf, adjust to correct height you want second shelf and repeat. Next day remove the stands. You'd...

Hairline cracks on multiple tiles in a small kitchen floor with ufh

Hi Peter, I wouldn't take it personally from Benchwarmer as I received something equally as helpful not long after. If I were up still at 2:30 plus on a Tuesday morning I'd be annoyed, or drunk. Either way I'd probably be avoiding Forums. Anyway if its a C2FT rapid adhesive I have seen that full...

Floor tiles debonding after UFH turned on

I always prime because of the amount of plaster that gets dropped. You can see in a photo the plaster stuck to my adhesive. It has gone soft from the moisture from the screed.

Floor tiles debonding after UFH turned on

No. No amenities to the site at that point. Pretty standard in the building industry.
