There must be something in the treat pattern too as I always use soft compound tyres on my cars and I tell you what, I can't stop well at all in the scooby but in the astra the wheels lock up, shift the snow, and you stop quickish. In the scooby the ABS kicks in and you can pretty much do the length of a road with it just juddering all the way down. Hand brake has come in handy a couple of times

As a rule winter tyres should never be fitted just in pairs over one axle. They should always be fitted as a full set. Extra grip on one end only of any vehicle can be disastrous especially when confidence is raised by the additional grip they provide. Also bear in mind that the reason most insurance companies query this is because of the lower speed rating of winter tyres and not changing wheels over between summer and winter as long as they are original spec and same size.

Lol Dan, thats just what fitting two could lead too!! At one point in my life I was reponsible for the maintenence of over 80 executive coaches that often went to the ski resorts. We used to have meetings with many of the leading tyre manafactures regarding tyre choice hence the reason why I gathered a bit of knowledge on the subject. Drifting eh, brings back memories of my old mk1 cossie!!
Sounds like some drifting fun to be had to me.

I was in a bus in the alps in Jan and we were overtaking cars on the roads going up and downhill. Apparently if they don't and they stop, they struggle more pulling off. Seemed mental to me so I held on tight but was still a bit tipsy from the flight I have to get drunk to get on.

MK1 cossie hey. That's going back a bit. a bloke bought my knackard scooby the other day and he has a Series 1 RS Turbo with 15k miles on the clock that his dad bought, used for a year or so and then bought something else and gave it to this guy (his son) who didn't have a license at the time so kept it in a garage he worked at. He eventually bought a car he could get insured on and by the time he'd done a couple of years and could have driven the RS it was worth too much to stick more miles on. It's now a collectors and probably one of the best in the country (even better than restores!). I was asking him to sell it me he said I couldn't afford it lol. Told him I'd get a mate or two to chip in and he told me where to go.

Those were the days, i had a couple of old mk2 escorts, a mk1 mexico, handful of capris including a mint 2.0 s, chequered recaros and black vinlyl roof. Used to love the old motors. Actually seen the cossie abandoned in south of france while on hols, came home and done hpi check, three days later had interpol at the door, apparentley it had been used for something illegal!! After a bit of tracking down got a hold of the insurers who sold it for a song to me. Brought it home and a bit of tlc, it was sorted!
