I've done about half a dozen wetroom floors in pebbles over the years and always had to strip the sheets. Most memorable however was the first time I used them, 4m kitchen splashback complete with all the sockets, switches and fuse spurs you can imagine.

I did two jobs, one is that of the photo, the floor made with sand and cement, (I am ashamed to say), I had to remove them from the card, impossible to pose.
only difficulty encountered, some panels, had stones, type balls, beautiful round and other more flat stones.
another job, 10 sqm curb house, I called my son and I did remove all the paper. :(
there are also not glued, stones in bags, are the same and cost less.
and the work comes out best and fastest.
grouting, all with Mapei and latex.
