outside tiling

evening folks, could anyone do me a favour and point me in the direction of any threads regarding outside tiling. friend called me last night , he has a customer on his grass cuting business. the guys got a tiled dwarf wall around his patio from which tiles are blowing off, they had just been d and d on. before i go to look at sorting it for him i want to gen up a bit so i can at least i know what issues im looking for and how to correct them. many thanks. dave

If the adhesive don't come off clean mate,ur going to have some job getting it off the wall-was it adhesive or sand/cement render?

you could start with whether the tiles are suitable for exterior use.some tiles are more porous and therefore not suitable for exterior application because they take on more moisture than others.
The moisture is then affected by what is called "freeze thaw"-they swell and contract with temperature changes and eventually blow.
If the tiles are good for outdoor use then perhaps moisture is getting in via cracked grout joints or simply by water vapour being trapped inbetween the d+d voids.
Also consider:was the wall prepped properly,did they use the right sticky+grout for outdoors?

thanks, not too sure yet about substrate, trying to get to go and have a look at the weekend. friend of a friend and as i havent tiled outside before wanted to know what to look for. is the prepp different, more complicated for outside tiling?? cheers for the replies lads
