I'v got a opus pattern travertine floor to do, which includes going around a island. I was wondering what is the best way to go about setting this out. Also when i dry laid the pattern out with a 3mm spacer some of the tiles ended up with a 10mm gap and some had non, would i be better off going with a larger grout line, and just adjust the ones that dont fit right, as i go. Any advice is apprecated, thanks.

Set the floor out based on the smallest tile and you will always get good cuts.

I would dry lay the tiles in the pattern to establish the most suitable grout joint width so that the joints are predominantly balanced. If all else fails, speak with the tile manufacturer & supplier to establish what joint the pattern has been designed with.

The key is that the wider the joint the easier it will be to make it look balanced.

Good luck,

Daz

Every opus pattern is a multiple of the smallest tile, so as above set out with say an 8" tile and you can't go wrong.
10mm and tight joints don't sound right, check your pattern Phil and make sure it's right.
Normally 3mm works on trav for me.

i've done the opus pattern where there are 197mm and 200mm tiles in the same design. obviously to ensure an equal grout line, have you checked the design incase yours is the same phil?
