Mosaic Grouting issue

I am having problems grouting a mosaic in a bathroom. It is one of those ceramic tiles that looks like a mosaic when grouted, not an actual mosaic on a mesh background.

The problem is the grout lines are so shallow that any grout washes out when cleaning off. The grout lines between each tile are fine and take the grout no problem.

1) Are these tiles only supposed to be grouted between each tile or the entire tile surface?

2) Also the tile shop provided black grout so you can see the joint lines...should the grout be grey? If the entire surface would take the grout this would'nt be a problem.

The tile is a Manhattan Negro if you Google Images this you will see it.

Can some experts shed some light on this please? Much appreciated

The "grout lines" on the tile face should be unglazed so they will absorb the water from the grout quite quickly.
They are a pain, there's no getting away from it.
I would just be very careful with the timing. You want the grout firm enough that it has keyed into the (fake) joints but not so set that it can't be removed.
Leaving the grout longer than usual for sponging and swapping sponges for white emulsifying pads should see you right.
Oh, and don't rush!
I've had to grout twice in some cases where I've left ungrouted patches.
