insurance work

hi all,how does insurance work go? do you have to have your company name on an insurance companies list of contractors they use? or does the customer ask you for a quote for an insurance job then just send it away to the insurance company? sorry for actin thick here but ive never had much dealings with it:stupid::lol:

Depends on the insurance company.
Some are happy for their client (your customer) to get 2 or 3 random quotes from the likes of ourselves and get the work done, then the insurance company pay them.
Others only use 'their own recommended tradesmen'.
I shot myself in the foot, leaky shower, told the punter to try their household insurance and let me know as i would put the quote in writing for them if it was a goer. They phoned back to thank me as the insurance would pay up but not me as i wasnt on their list!!!
I suppose it depends how much the job is worth as to how much the insurance companies act as big brother.
