I finished a 4 week tiling course in Febuary and i'm trying set up as a self employed tiler, I havent managed get many callls from adverising in the local papers. So i'm also looking and trying to get employment as a tiler with an existing company.

Welcome to the forums kent tiler!! 🙂

The thing is with advertising in the local press, its costly and only lasts a week. (As people tend to throw the papar away etc....)

Try ringing local conservatory companies, kitchen companies, local plumbers and plasterers, bathroom fitters etc, and ask how they are set for tilers. Offer a good rate and a good job, and your name will spread 🙂

Also, try contacting the big stores, like tesco, ikea, homebase and ask them too. They have a list of preffered contractors they like to use for their re furbs / new builds etc. You may not work directly for them, but they will refer you to the people that do.

Have you tried looking at the job centre plus website? Loads of self employed tiling jobs on there.

Also, get your cards everywhere. Tile shops, diy shops, bathroom stores, plumbing stores etc.... Even stcik them in your local garage / hairdresser / newsagent!! You will be suprised the amount of work you get from them.

Good luck 🙂

Cheers mate,

I just had my first call too, about time after 3 weeks in the paper, sounds like a very small job though. they said that the shower has been leaking behind the tiles and it has caused the grout to come out in parts.

Good luck mate - persevere.
As Concept says - get your name out there.
One tip though - don't mention that you are newly qualified - give the impression that you have been doing tiling for a couple of years.
Back handers also work if you are pushed - would mean getting friendly with one of the lads at a local tile shop. Take him to one side - the odd £20 here & there to hand your cards out is far more cost effective than 2 lines in the local rag on a Friday night.

Hiya mate, welcome to the forums. Where did you do your 4 weeker? How was it?
