I am currently redoing my bathroom and have ripped out the old flooring due to water damage. I have now replaced all the previous chipboard flooring with 18mm WBP plywood. (I had hoped to install thicker but due to floor levels and the floor had to go under an existing partition wall).

My plan was to install shower cubicle and bath and then fit 6mm Hardiebacker board to the remaining floor and then fit marble tiling.

I am now wondering whether I should fit the whole floor with Hardiebacker board and install the bath and raised shower cubicle over the top. This would then give an extra layer if I had any slight leaks. If I did do this, would it increase the chances of any tiles cracking / grout lines cracking due to movement getting in and out the shower and bath.

Which would be the prefered choice?

Thanks in advance,

Daz

Given the choice, I'd hardiebacker the full floor. Shoudn't have any cracking tile/grout issues imo:thumbsup:

Just another question, which is probably a stupid one, but where do install the hardie backer board to, when I'm doing the door area.

To try and describe it, if you were in the bathroom, do I install the Hardie backer board so it's flush with the line of the door when it's shut or do I install under the door until the point where the door meets the frame?

I'm presuming the latter because the marble floor tiles will go under the door.

Am I right, wrong or just daft for asking?

Lay the floor half way between the inside of the door and the door shut so when the door is closed you cant see your threshold from either side of the door. (when its closed obviously)

Just to add, don't forget your alkaline resistant jointing tape for the hardi boards.
