Hi. I've boarded a shower cubicle with moisture resistant plasterboard leaving a one inch gap at the top of the boards, should I fill the gaps with anything before tiling?

Also, just out of interest, if the top skim coats of plaster were coming away in places (like they were before I boarded), would it be a good idea to patch with a one coat plaster and tile over?

One more thing. Is there a cheaper alternative to BAL for adhesives, grouts, primers etc? A good one I mean :D I saw Mapei buildfix in B&Q, would that be ok? What could I prime with if I used this? Ceramic tiles by the way, nothing heavy.
