Tiles are not sizey as such Ray, They are all the same size and perfectly square, it's just no allowance has been left for a grout joint when they are placed in the pattern, a wider joint only exacerbates the problem,
I start tommorow so see how I get on

good luck let us now how you get on :8: ps if tiles are modlar the next pattern will bring back the grout jionts once you have a few patterns down you will see this

Just lay them by eye. You can only open the joints as far as interlocking tiles allow , normally around 4mm ish. The smaller tiles, just close up and when grouted you can't tell with the chiseled edge.

Ok, so I think I was worried unnecessarily. I think it will turn out ok (wont know for sure until its grouted). I laid them with a 2-3mm joint,
I even reduced the tiles by 20mm and redressed them where they go through the door to help the layout in the next room
Lovely stone though

Had a very similar 'problem' a couple of years ago, like yourself, worried for nothing and the chiselled edge looks great when grouted.

Don't forget the pics of the finished job
