I read that i can tile directly onto waterproof chipboard is this true as i was told that i can only tile onto waterproof ply minimum 6mm.

The question i have is about the new floors that they put in newbuilds which is t&g chipb'd instead of t&g floorboard, now is this chipb'd waterproof and how can i tell? the boards are green.

If i cant tile directly on top is it best to ply line them or use ditra?

I was told 6mm min ply but i said to myself i would use 9mm because the extra 3mm makes a heck of a differance structurally i think or is this just over kill?

That chipboard with a greenish tint to it, usually waterproof, you can tile directly over I believe with a fair few adhesive manufactuers adhesives.

I'd check that powerspec online thing, or give BAL a call. Or another company.

How come people are told not to tile over chipboard and t&g floorboard but yet the products are out there to do the opposite i feel better when i overlay with ply but obviously there is quite a large step in the door ways, at least thats what i was told.

Well, if it's just chipboard, I'd think it's risky too, but the boards you talk about are T&G chipboard floors designed with a load bearing weight allowance thingy me bob. So they can carry weight like tiles and people etc. They're also improved from a 'getting wet' point of view too, whcih means the adhesives shouldn't weaken them, which is what would happen with usual chipboard eventually if you tiles to it directly and water kept soaking through the grout joints and then in to the adhesive and then in to the chipboard.
