I went to see a problem job that was done in September last year. It is 600 x 300 Brazilian slate tiles laid direct onto mortar, just by the fixing method , I can see he knew nothing about tiling. Its not quite dot and dabbing but very close to it.
The grout should have been black but he just used sand and cement...soft builders sand by the looks it. It is red in places and grey in others.
50% maybe more of the tiles are loose and in one place its holding water.
I am fairly confident that the tiles could be lifted without too many breakages....but when relaying I would be a few short...problem is the client can only get a minimum order of a quarter of a pallet. But thats the clients problem.

I have lifted...and I mean by hand, a few tiles and the screed is sound apart from some cavities. So I am thinking either filling the screed holes with SPF or a self leveller ( one suitable for outdoor use).

Any other ideas ?

Its a free standing pad with drainage all around by the way of gravel stones. the area is not big enough to warrant any expansion joints

they can get the individual tiles from Mrs Stone.. any quantity they want, not a problem.

Can't help with the primary issue though, sorry.
