For me, I would always use a 2 part flexible, rubber type adhesive - cheap as chips at Topp's

never use 6mm ply you might as well put cardboard down 6mm is just not thick enough

if this was aimed at me brian, read it again,i said use a thinner ply(he said 25mm,i was thinking a tad thinner if the height was a problem,or keep 25mm,then hardi if not a problem with height)then 6mm or 12mm HARDIEBACKER,which is not ply

I am not a lover of tiling to ply no matter what adhesive is used , cement boards are on the market for a reason , so I use them. But!! If I had to , then s2 it has to be.

could you not use a thinner ply then 6mm or 12mm hardiebacker ?
Fraid not. Builder already has cut and loose fitted 25mm ply. He choose 25mm ply so that the levels matched an adjoining utility room tiled floor that he wanted me to overtile. But I have condemned the utility room tiled floor because you can lift the tiles up with your fingers! (tiles layed on a 25mm very weak mix of sand and cement)
If he had contacted me sooner it could have been 18mm ply,12mm Hardi and then an S1 adh
