Some opinions please

Evening all, I've done this chimney breast feature in my living room and am almost ready to grout, I'm in two mind whether to just go with a standard mid-grey or do something a bit different such as limestone. I know what the grey will look like but have never seen slate with a light colour, what do you think? Anyone got any pics? The paint on the walls next to it is going to be a light brown cappuccino (muddy puddle from dulux is its proper name!).

Oooooo I'm unsure. I'm always shyte at this sort of thing and regret the colour I chose so I leave it to the Mrs then I can blame her and change it. lol

Is it worth doing a few tiles on a board and testing the lighter one out. You probably already know what grey and anything darker would look like I'd guess?

Then offer the board up to the wall and get the Mrs in to check?

Yeah I'm really unsure, we all know the grey is the safe option but, I really want it to be a stand out feature. I've not got enough of the slate left to do a sample board, it took nearly a week to cut and lay this so I don't want to **** it up! I've had my colour chart out of the van but the little sample strips don't give you much of an idea what the whole thing will look like.

I suppose if it looks cack I could get the colour liquid out! I'd rather get it right first time though! Maybe I should have added a poll, then I could pass the blame if it goes wrong :lol:

I'd consider doing a couple of grout lines in the lighter colour around the corner where the TV is perhaps. Then if it doesn't feel like it's gonna look great, you can go down the grey route and regrout that little bit you did in the lighter colour maybe?

I'd consider doing a couple of grout lines in the lighter colour around the corner where the TV is perhaps. Then if it doesn't feel like it's gonna look great, you can go down the grey route and regrout that little bit you did in the lighter colour maybe?

Had the cornice done yesterday, mate of mine did the whole room, supplied and fitted for £195, which I thought was a bargain for 16 linear metres.

I wish I was better at Photoshopping I could have done you a range of colours on your actual picture but I've just had a quick go and it looks like I've drawn uneven lines using Microsoft Paint 1988 version. lol

Yeah whole lot is done, I'll put a few progress pics up later. The tiles were all 300x300mm to start with, all cut in to 50mm strips then random lengths, I sat and worked out (coz I'm sad!) that there are over 1000 cuts to do this, and it's only 5.5m2!

All getting chopped up, took hours and was a brown muddy mess by the end!

Still good, one of the originals that came with the saw, the dewalt porcelain one.

A few progress ones, painstaking doing al the pieces individually but, it was the only way to get it flat with minimal lipping, the mosaics that come on the sheets are ridiculous money and the lippage on them is horrendous.

I think the slate cost £20 m2 so £120 for this lot, the split face mosaics are about £100 m2, it's taken 4/5 days to do so far, so quite labour intensive but, a far superior result than using the mosaics IMO.
