Hi there,

Im about to start on my kitchen soon and wondered if its possible to tile straight onto the ceramic floor tiles that are already down.
Do i have to prime them or prepare them in some way if it is possible?

I'm not concerned about the height issue as the hall will be having oak flooring down over 18mm plywood so raising the kichen floor will be a bonus.

Thanks in advance

Paul

hello paul...

You can tile straight over the old ones...I would advise taking them up but if they are solid and no cracks etc etc..then just degrease them( sugar soap) and tile using a modified adhesive......Try to set out so that your new tile joints avoid the old ones....A crack isolation membrane can help...but not always necessary....good luck.......

Thanks for the reply Dave, you mention "modified adhesive", couldyou explain this please.

Thanks
Paul.

Hi paul....

Modified is just an adhesive with polymer additive in it..basically flexible adhesive....
