Dear Forum,

I am trying to work out what is the best way forward with repairing a not-very-well done patio. The patio is made of slate (roof) tiles - 30x40cm - on concrete. the problem is that the tiles keep coming up as they are not really heavy enough to make a good patio surface. I have started replacing a few tiles but have to dig out the concrete underneath. In doing so I disturb the adjacent tiles and so the job escalates. In an ideal world I should probably start from scratch with something better than slate roof tiles but life is too short as the patio is quite a large area. I was wondering whether there was some kind of adhesive/mastic that I could use to just 're-stick' the tiles as they come up. Any suggestions please? Steve

Could it be that the roofing slates are delaminating,if so it is unlikely anything will stick to them long term

Thanks for suggestions/comments guys - very helpful. The slates are definitely not delaminating though - it is just a question of their being rather too light-weight for the job they are supposed to do.

The thickness is not an issue , but it is probs the initial fixing method used..?.. if fixed correctly then they would be fine ..
