I would like to tell you of my first experience of this product, Ardex X 78 S. My local tile shop is an Ardex centre, and they were given several loads of this adhesive to give to tilers and see what they thought.

It comes in Ardex's usuak 20KG packing. It explains it has 4 times the initial strength of normal adhesives, a 90 minute time for light traffic-grouting, placing tiles 20 minutes. And more besides. So, what did I thing of it!

I poured a third bucket of clean water into a bucket, added the adhesive and mixed. I noticed straight away how light it felt on the mixer, and how much more you got from the water added, in fact I ended up worrying!!!

So, off I went on a conservatory floor, 14 m2. It was heaven to trowel, it just felt right, stayed on the trowel no matter what angle you put the trowel to. It feels extremely light, in fact I was concerned I didn't have any adhesive on the trowel!

The tiles just went into place with no hassle, just a slight twist into place, it was impressive.

The temperature was only about 10 D, slightly cold, and I did find it didn't cure as fast as they state. Winter!!! I found any adhesive on the tiles I missed came up so easy on dried.

So, the down side. I got these three bags for nothing. And apparently, it will trade as £55 a 20 kg bag. Would I use it again, yes, would I use it if I had to supply to a private customer, or in that fact a commercial, no.

It was very pleasent though..............Fred.

Sounds like it is nice to work with, but I have to admit to preferring Ardex over other brands. Coverage seems to be the same as any other 20Kg bagged addy.

Did you find that it was easier or faster to work with? What are the benefits to justify the price?

Yes I did find it easier to work with, and the bucket life was extremely good for a rapid set. Because it just holds together, it wasn't messy in any way, and cleaning out the bucket was easy.

I would use it all the time if it was not for the price.
