Restoration on slate fireplace

I am in the process of renovating a house and it still has the original fireplace and tiles in the lounge.

It is slate but appears to have some sort of coating to give it the appearance of a grained wood.

As you can see from the pictures, there is slight damage to the bottom of both of the pillars where the slate is exposed.

I would like to try and get this back to its original condition but not quite sure how to go about it. Anyone got any ideas as to how to achieve this finish.

Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

It can be repaired but you need a decorator who is excellent at graining

somebody who can turn this

It can cost less than you think but sadly the closest people to you I know are still miles away in Scotland. Have a search around your area, you'll find somebody but be sure to check out their work. All decent grainers will have a large portfolio of previous works. You can tell who is a pro and those that dabble in it from time to time

That looks quality CR but don't really want the expense of the whole fireplace just the small scratches. Do you know what product I would use just to touch up the small area?
