Regrout

hey all, have a regrout job to do next week, she wants all the grouting redone in her house, bathroom, kitchen floor, ensuite, utilidy, toilet. Haven't done any regrouting yet so whats best way to get all joints cleaned out, have seen bosch multimaster tool any comments on that?

hi Jimmy Doc regrouting is not a job many tilers would take on,make sure if you do do it that the customer has spare tiles in case you damage any ill take a bet you wont be wanting to do anymore,cant comment on the multimaster,good luck

yeah might not be the best of jobs to be doing but eh it's work and that's not as easy to come by round here at the minute so i take whatever comes my way, just not sure whats best way of removing old grout

Ive used a dremel in the past, different attachments and adjustable speed settings. Was a long old process though!

hiya jimmy trade tiler sell a blade for removing grout that fits the grinders,not sure on price but it looks good try his link and all the best with the job

We did a regrout once!
Limestone grout that dried patchy.
Used a dremmel and loads of attachments.
Make sure you don't scratch the surface of adjoining tiles as they will ask you to replace them at your expense - and if they are old stock you will end up doing the work for nothing or worse:mad2:

dremel last about a dozen tiles if you are lucky, floor grout eats them up. Similar for the Rotozip. Just used a grout wheel on the grinder, quick but way too dusty. Rotozip cleanest as it has a port for Henry. Long job. Allow a lot of time.

with the whole house to do I would be looking at a way to do it any other way I could! Not used colourant but my mate says the Everbuild Everwhite (?) does the job. Cheap in bulk but only available in white.

Sounds the biz alright, think some of the grout has cracks in it and has to come out, not sure if flexible grout was used or it could be a bigger problem when it has cracked, I'll know better when I see it, did anybody ever use the fein and carbine blade for removing large amounts of grout as grinder would be to dusty inside, fein looks a good tool to

Found even with the fein it can still be a hard slog.

Its probably the dustiest job ever!

I've used a Fein on small areas and it is great, but just remember that you really need 3 hands to do the job properly....as it is difficult to hold the vacuum nozzle and keep the Fein steady on your own.

Even so would the fein be my best bet, does the fein carbine blades last long White beam, I'll have to go a day rate plus blades, just needa know how much wear they take as their not cheap

I used a diamond blade, for the amount of regrouting your doing, 3-4 blades if not more, the floor grout is even tougher than the walls.

The fein will do the job but you will need to be real carefull as if you slip with it you will damage the tiles very easily. the carbide tip blade will probably do the whole job though you may possibly need a second blade. the fein or bosch are similar tools and both will damage the tiles in seconds if you let the blade hit the actual tile instead of the grout.

I've done an entire gyms changing room before with the fein and its the only tool to use in my opinion.If your doing only walls one blade should do you,floor grout causes alot more wear.Make sure the customer knows that some tiles will more than likely get scratched cause you will loose your concentration at some point because its long and boring.
Like you say mate work is work and I wouldn't turn it down.The only way to do it is day rate because its hard to gauge how long it will take. Enjoy lol

Hi, i just done a regrouting job, we use a worx sonic with a vacuum attachment, the motor doesn't spin or cause any dust. dead easy diamond blade that just vibrates. We used it to do the bulk of the grout and a hand rack for more delicate areas. not one tile damaged or marked in the whole bathroom.

but as far as i know the fein doesn't have a vacuum attachment which swang it for me. A client is more impressed by less mess then brand
