I've just quoted for a bathroom, 25m2 brickset with a mosaic border. That was fine until the customer said they wanted black grout. When I told them about how awkward and dirty the job would be and how my quote would increase they changed their minds (even though I told them to stick to what they originally wanted)

Anyway, I gave them a written quote and just as I was leaving the customer stated they they were having epoxy grout, they would supply it. I haven't used epoxy before and just assumed that it was like any other grout but just more expensive, until I read up on it!:whatchutalkingabout

How hard is it to use? I've read a few posts on here stating that "emulsifying pads and epoxy floats" are required. Where can you get these from, Topps, CTD?

How long would it take to grout 25m2, with a mosaic border(3 tiles thick)?
I've read that about 20mins per sq metre, is that realistic for a novice?
Does the cutomer really need all 25m2 grouting in epxoy or will just around the bath and shower do?

Would it be best to practise first?

Loads of questions but I fear that if I get the job I will spend a week just grouting:grin:

A hard rubber float is best to use and emulsifying pads.. white ones ....

For quicker clean up i find fairly hot water and very regular rinsing of the pads help...try not to apply to much pressure so as not to remove to much epoxy from the joints....

Do not leave the dwell time too long before cleaning off or it will be very hard to remove....a couple of final light wipes with a good quality ( tilers ) sponge will leave a good finish......( plenty clean water )...

If any residue is left once dry you can get epoxy residue remover but if you are patient in your clean up then you probably won't need it...just a buff with a cotton cloth should do......

Always read the instructions on the epoxy tub regarding setting times etc......

Just to add.....Try and get the customer to use easy poxy by BAL or similar...it is easy to clean up compared to the more traditional epoxy grouts..

its vastly over rated in terms of how hard it is to use imo, maybe thats because i am used to plastering ceilings in 90's of heat lol

as dave says try and get 'easy poxy by bal' work in 1-2 meter sections at a time.
lots of emulsifying pads and prepare to throw everything out after use lol

its hard on the shoulder so dont put on any more than you can competently handle and clean off.

One other thing.... if you get it on your skin wash it off immediately or wear gloves... its nasty stuff!
