End Grain Wood Flooring

Anyone done this before. I'm thinking of having a go with some old reclaimed timber I have. Mostly railway sleeper and Victorian lintel (possibly pine) type timber. Cutting it into 20mm sections then sticking it down to screed using a flexible adhesive. Sanding hardening and staining it. How durable would it be?? Not sure what to seal it with. Any tips gratefully received.

Pretty sure railway sleepers are ful of preservative. Can't see it sealing very well

end grain is really hard to sand off but will last forever....spent weeks sanding it on the barbican in london as a lad ....mind numbing ...
