London underground work is a pain in the ...... when i was younger i gave it a try, in my experience, you could only work for 4 hours between 12.30am and 4.30am.
in this time you have to lug all your kit down and back up again, so you proberbly only get 2.5 tiling hours......m2 rate is impossible and i did it on an anti socal hours basis........got paid reasonably well but, 12.30 til 4.30.....lugging my gear about everywhere, sleep during the day, hardly do anything for the money, feel bad about the whole thing.....

this was my experience and i will not do it again.........however things may have changed.......they may let you store your tools at the station platform level?
but the working hours are going to still be the same due to the working hours of the tube line..........not for me thank you!

you need to be contracted by the customer....i.e london transport,
in my case i was working for a large tiling contractor (40+ men and well established) these jobs only go to the large tiling contractors, and if you work for them you will (possibly) end up doing this kind of work........gm...if you are a one,two or 3 man band.........you got no chance.......and as to my last post....why would you want to.......as my dad used to say "why create exquisite bathrooms etc. when you can make the same money stickin' up 6x6 whites".......not my philosophy but i can see the old gits point........50% tiler 25% buiseness man 25% family man...................sometimes in life the carrot is not worth chasing! eh?

Don`t know about protilers but i did work for a italian company called cristaffolli

think that is how you spell it they where from romsey, night rate in the early 90`s

i was on £90 a night plus i had 4 guy working for me as labourers

protiler is right about the hours it is a nightmare you don`t get much done in 4

hours it`s the same at the coach stations like victoria

then there is the drunks and f****rs trying to nick you`r tools and sandwiches

Hi Gents

Just my twopenneth worth...

I have PM'd a couple of jobs for London Underground and TfL.

Initially, a contractor needs to have been accredited via something called Link Up. Link-up is the UK rail industry supplier qualification scheme, providing a single common registration, qualification and audit process for suppliers that is shared by the UK rail industry - effectively if,as a contractor, you get through this process any one of the "buyers" from the rail industry know that you are employable. It is now quite a process and not cheap.

If you are yerning to work on the underground (can't thnk why!!!) you would need to establish contact with a Link Up approved contractor and apply for work through that route.

It is a tough tough marketplace, IMO the "buyers" are only interested in price and the surveyors are only interested in quality and we all know what happens when you pay peanuts!!!

If anyone wnats to PM me for a contact explaining what you are loking for I will respond ASAP.

Kind regards,

Brian - The Project Damager
