I hacked off all the tiles around my bathtub/shower and underneath there is mostly rock solid brick wall with a ca 3 mm thick plaster coat. However, in a couple of places the plaster came off exposing bare brick wall. There are not many such holes in the plaster and the biggest is about 20 cm across at the widest.

I plan to tile on top of this with whatever primer/tanking/adhesive/grout that Topps Tiles will recommend me. Furthermore, I will box in a couple of pipes with some aquapanel from Wickes and tile these too.

My question right now is: Can i fill these holes as well as cover the aquapanel with some sort of filler or must I go trough the process of plastering? I would love to avoid plastering if possible as I will have to buy rather a lot of it (10 kgs?), mix it up etc and lastly I'll have to wait up to 4 weeks for it to dry.

Hi and welcome...could use some rapid set but prime with an acrylic primer...bal do there own if thats the adhesive your using.

How thick is the plaster coat (so how thick is the 'filling' required)?

Does the rest feel loose at all? You wouldn't want the rest to come off once it has a bit of weight on it. You'd have to make sure that it is still all solid I'd guess.

Thanks for your responses. Yes, the depth of what needs feeling is up to 3 - 4 mm and the biggest area to be filled is approx 20 cm across each direction. I have plenty of experience working with filler and little with plaster, hence my question. I will be mixing up some waterproof cement for another project. Will there be any point using that to fill holes? I will most likely have plenty left so could be an economical choice.

I will use whatever Topps tiles recommend. BAL seems to be their main brand. But feel free to suggest a series of products.
