Just wondered what your views are on travelling far to a course.

Here's my theory 🙂

You find a course local and you like it but there's one that seems to ring the bells a little more but it's far away. Now you could train to be a tiler at the one close to you but really, if you're spending the rest of your working life in the trade surely the distance of the training centre doesn't come in to play much at all?

I would have liked to train at an establishment that can give me 110% and that's got a really good reputation and is at a good price too. And really if I'd have been trained at a local tiling school every time I got a little stuck with something I would have thought to myself 'I wonder if I wouldn't have been stuck with this problem if I'd have picked the training centre I really wanted to train at'.

Just wondered what your views are? We seem to get a fair few asking for a course in a certain area, when really the first question is what's the best course out there? No matter what distance, the UK is small enough to get to anywhere in a day (pretty much) and providing the training centre is near to a train station or good road networks or even in some cases an airport, then the travelling to and from it is only part of the investment in your future career. No?

well i am travelling down to newcastle from alloa next week for the north east training and i am hoping its the best move i ve ever done i ll keep you informed as to how i am getting on:wink_smile:

And where the hell is Alloa? lol

My point is that it's worth travelling anywhere in the UK if you're considering it as your career and business. I travel abroad to find suppliers for my business and often come back without any. You do what your business needs you to do.

I just wanted to hear if you lot thought it's worth it to, as we get loads of people saying stuff like 'hi, know where there's a tiling courses within XXXXXX area as I can't find one' sort of thing.

Darren at NE Tiling Training is a sh*t hot instructor and mentor. He'll make sure you know it was the right move. You'll see 😉

i would travel far to a course. i think its the training quality and price you have to study before booking not the distance you may have to travel to get it as you say dan you are investing in your career.

Exactly my point. There's a couple that are really overcharging too. Don't fall for the 'you must be better if you're more expensive'. Price can sometimes sway you one way or the other. Imagine them all as the same price and length courses and then try and find a reason you like a certain training centre. 🙂

Another good reason is to be in a training environment where you are not going to be in some sort of competition with the other guys you are there with in the future.

At least then you can be honest with your fellow students and get the best out of the course, instead of being jack and secretive because you don't want anybody to know 'your plan'....
