hey guys,
Got my first ever slate tiling job coming up, b&q tiles in a mates house. I need some advice on what, when and why of sealers for stone products and what spacer size also do i coat wall and back butter as the tiles are different thickness or what? much appreciate guys. I understand that a natural product needs to be sealed as its porus and would stain easy but just not sure if all stone needs to be sealed etc. looking for the full lowdown and what other guys charge for slate and other stone efforts? Also thickness of beds for stone slate etc? thanks a million

Andy

As you say the slate is different thickness's (uncalibrated),i would grade it first, wash it down with water and seal with HG sealer before fixing and once fixed before grouting.I would back butter the tiles and comb the walls with adhesive. You will probably get a rough looking natural wall as the tiles are of different thickness and slightly different sizes, dont use spacers and as there is a lot of work invoved i would charge around £35 m2 but its up to you what you charge ,all the best.

Thanks brian,Can you tell me.... Are some kinds of slate porus? also do you use tubbed adheasive for slating the walls? cheers

Andy
