Hi all, this is my first post. Just started self employed as a tiler. Joiner to trade. Have done some tiling but have a lot to learn. Going to fully tile bathroom in couple of weeks. My questions are. Do you have to roughen up plastered walls that have been gloss painted and do you only use the tanking system on plasterboard. Can you manage with 9mm exterior grade play on the floor as its quite sound and what are your thoughts on PVA sealant. Posts are really good and informative. By the way do any of you charge by the hour. Loads more to sak but thats enough for now

i would rather have the gloss removed as the glue cant penetrate the paint and the paint might be ten layers thick and you are not gauranteed that it will hold the wheight of the tiles ,ive used the tanking system on various jobs and as for floor ply ,im sure someone will say you cant use 6 mm but if the floor is sturdy and not springy and you use a flexi glue you should be ok

sand walls & score with scrapper, tanking systems are used in all high volume of water use areas(BAL WP1 TANKING KIT)use AA adhesive.Use 12mm ply on floor remember ply, tile adhesive,so door needs cutting.use an acrylic primer for walls.Better pricing by the day or pricing the job.Hope this helps you out. BRIAN🙂 Personally i would only use PVA on concrete floors to control the dust.
