Hi there. Would appreciate some advice on approaches to tiling on to Wickes Aquapanel, which I'm using to replace two existing plasterboard walls around the customer's bath (with overbath shower). Tiles are likely to be 20x25 or 25x40 format.

Would be grateful for opinions on the following:
  • Best way to secure panels to studwork (ceramic head screws?)
  • Is it necessary to use primer?
  • Which adhesive/grout would you recommend.
  • Any other useful advice!
Many thanks
Matt

Aquapanel mproduce their own screws I believe. If not try drywall screws, you may need a cup washer to spread the load but I am not sure.
There is no need to prime aqua panel but I suggest you read the adhesive manufacturers instructions.

For adhesive and grout, it all depends what is available to you and how quickly you need to to be ready for grouting. A flexible rapid setting adhesive will give you a quicker turnaround but if you are inexperienced at tiling a standard set adhesive may be more suitable. Are the tiles ceramic or porcelain as this can also have a bearing on adhesive choice. For grout, a flexible grout such as BAL microflex will be fine but my personal choice would be Ardex or Mapei.

Hi, i would agree with Grumoy although as its a shower area and not a wet room you could use Hardibacker?

Thanks both,

Grumpy, the tiles are ceramic, and just to give myself some extra time I was thinking of BAL's single part flexible adhesive. Would that be suitable?

Matt
