Evening all,

Hopefully a very simple question here, can anyone advise whether 6mm XPS tile backerboard would be suitable for laying over a timber subfloor (18mm structural ply) to tile over within a bathroom? Or should be I be looking at say 10mm instead?

Thanks for your assistance,

Russ

Can you suggest what would be more suitable please?

An error on my original post (now amended). The existing subfloor is 18mm structural ply and not floorboards as originally stated, the original floorboards were knackered from being tiled onto historically so I opted to remove the lot and renew in ply.

Some on here won't like this !but I'd suggest just taking floor boards up and strengthening joists with some extra noggins, then use Marine or high grade ply to at least 30mm in thickness , I usually put 18mm down screwed to joists alot of screws , then over board with at least 12mm ply again !screwing at 6 inch centres or less , prime ply with sbr , lay durable decoupling membrane , then tile

I know some tilers will disagree !! Loving a cement board etc , but I was a victorian tiler for many years !not one failed floor because I done it properly
