*UPDATED* Wet Room Project Build Thread!

Hi all
In a kind of 'Payment' for all the advice i have got from here i have decided to do a build thread for my wet room, it may help someone in the future it may not but here it goes!

Room size is 1.8M x 2.2M, at the end of the extension i finished building a last year. I work full time so this may take a while as it will just be me doing this...

Screed is an anhydrite screed currently 50mm below finished floor level, i shuttered of 150mm before the screed went in to accomidate the drain.

With that let's start with the blank canvas.

Ceiling already plastered

And placing the toilet roughly where it will live..

So first up we need to get our services in:
Toilet Overhead Cisten
Hot/Cold for sink
Feed to Wall mounted shower
Feed to wall mounted wand flexi shower thing
The shower will be digital so also some Cat5

Planning the pipe routes

As i am battening and boarding (Didn't feel i could get the finish i wanted with the DotnDab) i only needed to recess the surface mounted clips to just below the batten depth of 18mm. So with that in mind:

Next up was making the copper pipework.
Now, i had no soldering iron but i can just about TIG Weld... Just Dan, just....

So making the pipes

And welded

Got slightly awkward lol

This was surprising! One bit of new old stock 15mm from 1989 and the other from 2018!

So with the pipework made i pressure tested it all to 4Bar...carefully...

Then clipped it all in place

Next up was the extraction, used a 100mm inline fan from Vent-Axia

Time to make a hole and get it mounted

Mounted in the void and 100mm hole drilled

Solid 100mm Cavity pipe inserted and flexi added to the end for the bend using aluminium ducting tape

And fitted

And sealed to the fan, just the wiring to do and the drop down for the fan inlet

Next up i drilled the holes for the spot lights, out came the trusty china laser level...

Nice line so the spots will be in-line...

Further updates tomorrow folks, got some more done, just need to edit it

Never seen copper pipes welded before! You might find it easier to get yourself a torch ( small gas bottle with a screw on torch ) and use Yorkshire ( solder ring) fittings. Run all the pipework and then solder the joints, probably would have saved you some precious time!

Ok bit of an overdue update!

So, marked out the spotlights with the laser level and cut the holes:

Next up i wanted to battern all the walls rather than d+d as i wasnt confident enough to get a good finish.

So batten at 400mm centers.

Also placed ply around the pipes so i can a good fixing point

So with the walls batterned out it was ready for the moister resisting plasterboard:

Added plasterboard adhesive along with the screws

Added the stop bead, this is where the plaster ends and the tiles begin

I next scrim taped and plastered the top strip to the beading

Getting the plaster up

Starting to flatten the plaster

And done

Left it for a week to dry then masked, painted and painted the beams

And ceiling done!

Next up got the Impey linear floor drain in and pipework connected.

Tray in and packed with cement, there is a membrane between the anhydrite screed and the cement

After that lovely prep and attention to detail even behind the boards which is very refreshing to see, I would be in no hurry to pick the first tiler that comes along Adam, they want vetting with a fine tooth comb, beware of the chancers out there and take your time to find the right tiler to give that the finish it deserves.

I’m actually wondering why you’re even looking for a tiler.
With the standard of prep you’ve achieved metros would be straightforward enough for you.
With the amount of respect you appear to have gained from members you’ll receive as much guidance as you require.

exactly what I was about to type.

Part of the reason I started to tile myself over 25 years ago. I couldn’t face getting someone in to tile a room knowing that I could do a better job myself.
Not looked back since.

Also, somebody send this man a torch! Max respect for welding something as thin as copper pipe. I can solder, but my welding is awful, unless you want a hedgehog.

Hi guys!

Next up we have the floor! In the last update i go the linear drain in it's position. So next up was building the floor falls. I didn't want a tray because i preferred to make it.

So, the floor with Linear drain

So, time to remove the Anhydrite screed lattice.
Killer angle grinder!

And removed:

Next up was time to make the falls, 20mm per meter for the first meter to the drain then 10mm per meter for the rest of the floor.

Jig'ing and welding the former:

Now i had a form in place to screed to i needed to primer the floor

Next up was the screed

First up i used Mapei floor adhisive to bond the screed to the floor/primer then a sharp sand 3/1 Mix with SBR.

Drain Masked off first of course

Here you can see the adhisive before the screed was compacted ontop

And done

Next up was leaving for a week or so to fully dry.

Then all surfaces primered with BAL APD

And on with the Impey Tanking

And membrane on and sealed with Impey sealer

Next update is the tiling!

Lovely that Adam..only thing I would have done different is to set the drain around 100mm away from that back wall so it could have had floor tiles enveloped all the way around the drain, sure it'll look fab, great prep work

Hi guys a bit of an overdue update!

So when we left off we had a tanked wet room.

Next up the tiling

So first i put out the batten and set out

Also brought a new toy!

Then up and away with the tiling!

Got to the window corners and the bit i was dreading, the miters...

first wall done, i didn't want to grout the external mitre so i filled them all

before and after

Next moved onto the floor and the other 2 wall's

labeled all the cuts for the floor

Next up me and my other half did the grouting...

Lovely job huh?! We used Epoxy grout, BAL Easypoxy AG Black, mostly due to wanting to make it as water tight as possible...

Using a set of digital scales to mix up exact amounts and using empty mastic tubes to apply the grout with

Then cleaning down the grout

Onto the end wall

And the floor.. the dark patches are just water

1) a picture of the tanked room is on its side so I had to turn my head.
2) that is just about the perfect installation!
No one could have given you the result you’ve achieved - well thought out and executed.

@Waluigi thanks, i think i know the bit you mean, the slate? I didn't know how to fix that issue The window seemed 'too big' on the outside and i couldn't drop the slate any lower at the window side because it would no longer meet the frame and allow the trickle vent to open
