Spoke to a chap on the phone last night who had 2 bathrooms to do in a new build (wall tiling only), he told me that all the prep was done and was good to go, he just needed a price. Went round on the way home tonight and to be fair to him the walls were very flat and level, only problem................9mm ply with 2 coats of varnish as a 'sealer' I politely tried to tell him that it wasn't a very good surface to tile to and that ideally I'd like to overboard it, he was having none of it and told me that varnished ply was perfect for tiling to. So to all of us out there who have been using cement boards, aqua panel, tanked plaster board etc, we've been doing it wrong. Why ask a pro for advice on a job and ignore everything that is being said??? Mental :mad2:

ive just come back from looking at a floor and the chap actually agreed with everything i said bri:yikes: expantion joint, backerboards instead of ply,SLC over his really flat new concrete floor:smilewinkgrin:no question at all

If he knows so much about tiling, why is he getting you in....? The guy's a muppet of the highest order!

Well I have just finished off a bathroom and the customer phoned my partner in a hell of a state because we had "forgotten to grout the corners" he explained that we would be back in the morning (she was out when we left) to Silicon the internals. Turned up in the morning and she confronted us about it because she had asked all her friends about it and they had never herd of Silicon in the corners... What can you say?

Been there, got the T-shirt. There's too many "know-it-alls" out there, yet they still want "us" to do their tiling .

Mad stuff. Send 'em to the forum for a royal grilling. lol

I've had two sets of customers since Saturday who want to tile onto new cement based screeds in less than two weeks from them being laid!!:yikes:

When i try to explain the length of time their floors will need to cure fully they look at me as if i am mad as their builder/plasterer/decorator/pal down the pub all think its perfectly fine:mad2: - sometimes i wonder why i bother

I just went round to price up a bathroom for a builder I sometimes do work for. Floor and walls, plumber has priced too.
The floor has just been screeded and I told him how long he'd have to wait for the floor to dry out and he said the plumber uses a special adhesive which will let him tile in 4 days,he wanted to know if it was bull. I informed him it was.

Looked at a job on Monday. "I've it all ready for you". Plasterboard clout nailled in and 6mm ply clout nailed. "When can you start?"

i went to see a job yesterday just as the plumber was putting 6mm ply on the floor. i then spoke to the boss and got him to stop him. i quoted for laying cement boards and for the job (25m2 of travertine) and got the job. i started today as i was quiet:thumbsup: at least some people listen
