Private work a bit slow so doing a bit of site work.Big mistake. working for peanuts.Laying marble onto 5mm ply nailed down, ceramics onto untanked stud walls,no sealer for marble etc etc.Basically theyre cowboys.Goes against everything ive been taught.So if theres anyone in Yorkshire who wants owt doing to a GOOD standard not site standard,let me know please. Rant over:mad2:

sounds like youre one of the lucky ones doug.wish i could find some that have half decent metrage in then. booked on a course" how to write winning tenders" hopefully then ill be in a position to find and do the work myself instead of making someone else rich at my expense

thankfully fastflex but even so.Nearly had us putting porcelain onto walls with green star though till i intervened.Nearly as bad as a customer last year-refused to sign a disclaimer after he refused to take heed our warnings about tiling onto anhydrite screed with ufh. wouldnt commission ufh,refused decoupling membrane,refused any expansion joints(200m open plan) and denied the screed needed scabbling.so far so good on that 1. why do the public always know better?

The thing of it is, for instance when working for a builder and he tells you to tile straight on green chipboard because he has done it loads of times and never had a come back you do it because you need the money, he is not going to listen anyway so just take the money and let him suffer the consequences.

thats it lucius,times are hard,money talks.just got no pride in my work working for these clowns.when its ME personally doing a private job ill go the whole 9 yards,ill even collect tiles for customer,had some great feedback from private work ive done.Shame theres not enough of it about

Times will be even harder though advancetiling if one of those jobs fail and you tiled it knowing the substrate was not up to the job. As a professional the buck stops with you, disclaimer or not. I appreciate times are hard but just be careful!

don't ever be tempted to get into that downward spiral of cutting corners on any job, it'll reflect badly on you. You'll lose all pride in your work and it'll be hard to up your game on the private jobs. Don't do it!

do what you gotta do to pay the bills. if the builder insists on crap put crap in but dont go in your van especially if your names signwritten on it, just turn up in a car and wear plain clothes if you wear t-shirts etc with your name/logo etc. just get in get jobe done and get paid and GET OUT

its obviously not the best way to do things but if works slack and you got mortgages to pay and kids to feed you do what you gotta do!
